Error "Method vim.StorageResourceManager.recommendDatastores threw undeclared fault of type vim.fault.NotFound" when trying to add a disk to VM

Issue/Introduction

The following error occurs when you try and add a disk to an existing VM:

Datastore Faults: Method vim.StorageResourceManager.recommendDatastores threw undeclared fault of type vim.fault.NotFound

Environment

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

Ensure all vCenter services are running.

The vmware-vpxd-svcs and other required services are in a stopped state as seen above

/var/log/vmware/vpxd-svcs/vpxd-svcs.log has the entry "Authentication failed".

Authentication failures typically mean there is an invalid SSL certificate for either the Solution Users (machine, vsphere-webclient, vpxd, vpxd-extension, hvc, or wcp) or the __MACHINE_CERT.

Resolution

Validate the Certificate chain for vCenter Machine SSL certificates.

 Use vCert to validate and update the expired SSL certificate/certificate chain on the vCenter.
