Issue/Introduction

Following error may be encountered on Greenplum Database cluster after upgrade from GPDB6 to GPDB7:

Error "interconnect encountered a network error, please check your network"

Environment

Greenplum Database 7

Cause

It is recommended to validate the parameter "gp_interconnect_address_type" value is set to the intended value.

The default value for the same GUC has been changed to "unicast" in GPDB7 after it had default value of "wildcard" in GPDB6.

Despite "unicast" is the current recommended value, on a cluster that is preconfigured to benefit from "wildcard" setting value functionality, the new value can potentially result in host communication errors.

Additional factors that can potentially lead to the same error are outlined in the following document:

Resolution

It is recommended to validate the parameter "gp_interconnect_address_type" value is set to the intended value.
