cb-enterprise Startup Times Out with AWS T Series Instance Type

Issue/Introduction

EDR server installed on AWS EC2 T Series Instance times out during cb-enterprise start. 

• Running this command takes 20 seconds or longer 

  semanage port -a -t rabbitmq_port_t -p tcp 5004

• Potential backlog is seen. 

Environment

• Carbon Black EDR: All Versions
• AWS EC2

Cause

• EBS bandwidth for disk is too slow
• CPU is shared underneath with other clients. 

Resolution

Change the instance type, for example the m-series has higher EBS bandwidth and does not share CPU with other instances. Please discuss with your AWS administrator on the options and what fits best.  

Additional Information

• On startup cb-enterprise script calls on semanage to add ports, even if selinux is disabled. Each port has to be entered manually and the policy saved at the end, this should normally take less than a minute total. 
• Adding additional ports to the security policy has seen an average of 2-4 seconds addition. If many ports have been added to semange outside of the product, this can add to the delay in time.
