Issue/Introduction

An RDM is presented to a virtual machine registered on a host and needs to be available from other hosts so the VM may migrate or HA failover.

Environment

ESXi - all versions

Resolution

  • Ensure the storage is accessible from all required hosts.
  • Ensure the same LUN ID is presented to all hosts.
  • Ensure the VM configuration directory, including the vmdk mapping file to the RDM, is on a datastore accessible by all hosts.
  • You can now migrate the VM between hosts.
