Issue/Introduction

  • In the cluster events seen in vCenter events reporting “vSAN Health Test ‘VMware Certified vSAN Hardware’ status change from ‘green’ to ‘yellow’’ and from ‘yellow’ to ‘green’ appear every 5 minutes only on the cluster with hosts mmounting a remote vSAN datastore.
  • This health check is not included on the vSAN Skyline Health check on the local cluster with the remote vSAN datastore mounted.
  • This health check is silenced on the cluster providing the remote vSAN datastore.

Environment

vSAN - All versions with remote vSAN datastore mounted

Cause

The event for the failing vSAN health check is forwarded to the cluster mounting the datastore remotely even though the event is silenced.

The event is generated regardless of the silenced status on the storage cluster. The generated event is not prevented from being sent to the cluster remotely mounting the datastore.

Resolution

Resolve the underlying condition leading to the alert.

As the cluster level events cannot be suppressed in vCenter the underlying cause of the health check failure must be resolved to stop the event reporting.

Engineering is currently evaluating if the event reporting behavior will be changed in a future release.
