Virtual machine has conflict mac with deny list, new mac

Issue/Introduction

• When the virtual machine port group has been changed the MAC address of the VM also got changed.
• We see multiple MAC address in the deny list.
• The MAC address which gets changed belongs to the deny list.
• The change in MAC address caused the virtual machine to be out of network momentarily.

 

Messages in vCenter Task and event is similar to the following :

VM VMNAME has conflict mac [00:50:56:##:##:##] with deny list, new mac [00:50:56:##:##:##]

Environment

ESXi 8.0

vCenter 8.0

Cause

The deny-list contains mac-address entries from previous xvMotions between vCenters.

Resolution

 We don't recommend clean up the deny list as it will lead to MAC address conflicts. But in case you require to delete MAC address from the Deny list, please open a case with Broadcom Support following the instructions documented in the KB Creating and managing Broadcom support cases
