We cannot complete the stage-1 of the vCenter upgrade using the VC-installer, as it goes blank.

Issue/Introduction

We are using the FQDN of a vCenter server to mange this temporary vCenter VM, In order to deploy it on the vDS network. However when task  proceeds after  authenticating all the password the page goes blank.

 

Environment

vCenter server 7.0.x

vCenter server 8.0.x

Resolution

Workaround-1

Used the ESXi host to manage this VM.

Selected a standard switch network. When the VM got deployed after  stage-1, changed the network of this VM from vSS to vDS.

After changing the network to same as the source vCenter server the upgrade could complete successfully. 

Workaround-2

Use installer of same major version and proceed upgrade.

After major version upgrade, patch vCenter to requested minor version.
