Issue/Introduction

  • Unable to see the datastore from the vSphere client UI or ESXi host GUI.

  • Unable to see the datastore mounted on the ESXi host from the ESXi host CLI.
esxcli storage vmfs file system list

  •  Running the 'esxcfg-mpath' command in the ESXi host CLI does not display any paths for the datastores.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the local disk is disconnected or the RAID group is misconfigured. If connectivity to the physical host or chassis is lost, the datastore will also lose connectivity.

Resolution

  1. Confirm device connectivity at a hardware level.
  2. Rescan storage from ESXi host cluster level (Right click on the ESXi host cluster > navigate to Storage > Rescan Storage).
  3. If connectivity is not restored, reboot the ESXi host.
  4. If the issue persists, please get in touch with your hardware vendor for assistance.
