Gen - Workstation Toolset Gen

Issue/Introduction

Installed Gen CSE Clients to workstation and cannot open them to show login panel.

Able to install the CSE client on the client machine and can see all the CSE client software Icons are installed but when trying to open any one of them for providing logon details nothing is displayed and no error messaging.

Environment

Gen 8.63

Cause

In this case the GA version of the CSE Clients were installed after the Gen workstation had been installed along with PTFs.   This may be the result of a runtime file mismatch between what was installed prior with regard to Gen on this workstation and then installing the CSE Clients at a later date.  The CSE Clients reference the Gen GUI runtime WRGN.dll file.

To see the error related to this type of issue, reference the Windows Event Viewer for a CSE Client application such as 'iefen.exe' which is the Encyclopedia Client.   Here is what the error in the event viewer (General section) may look like:

This type of issue can occur for GUI Windows client applications (.exe) as well.  Reference the following article that describes this type of issue:

Gen 8.6 GUI Windows application (.exe) does not open/execute

Resolution

Recommendation is to become current on Gen PTFs for the workstation CSE Clients.  Apply Gen 8.6 applicable PTFs starting with WKS86200, WKS86300, and WKS86400 in this order.
