Issue/Introduction

This article serves as guidance for patching 7.0 ESXi hosts, using the command line and esxcli commands.

Environment

vSphere ESXi 7.0

Resolution

To install the ESXi 7.0 patch via command line on a host, the offline zip bundle for ESXi must first be obtained.

  1. Login to support.broadcom.com.
  2. Click "My Downloads".
  3. On the second page of products, click "VMware vSphere".
  4. Click "VMware vSphere - Enterprise Plus", then "7.0".
  5. On the "VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi)" row, click "View Group".
  6. Click the dropdown menu above "Expand All", and select the desired version.

With the patch downloaded, upload it to a datastore that the host(s) has access to. Refer to Upload Files or Folders to Datastores.

With the patch .zip file uploaded to the datastore a host has access to it, you will need to SSH into the host as root during maintenance mode, and run esxcli commands per "Patching ESXi host using Command Line".
