VCF Operations/Automation (formerly VMware Aria Suite)

Issue/Introduction

  • Views are not showing correct number of VMs
  • You go directly to the vCenter in Operations and can see the correct number of VMs in the Summary pane, but in the folder view the number of related VMs are not showing up correctly.
  • Searching for an existing VM by name finds no VM object in the Aria Operations inventory.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

The Maximum Number of Virtual Machines Collected advanced setting in the vCenter adapter is set to 0 or to a value lower than the total number of VMs in the vCenter.

Resolution

  1. Log in to Aria Operations as an administrative user and navigate to Administration > Integrations

  2. Click the vertical three dot menu next to the vCenter adapter and select Edit

  3. Expand Advanced Settings

  4. Verify that the value for the setting Maximum Number of Virtual Machines Collected is greater than the number of VMs in the vCenter to collect data from. (The default value for this setting is 2000000000)

Note: Setting Maximum Number of Virtual Machines Collected to 0 disables the collection of all VM data from the vCenter.
