Issue/Introduction

Virtual machine deployments from VMware Aria Automation fails with below error if any of the registered vCenter is on unusable state
"TypeError: Cannot call method 'createContainerView' of undefined (Workflow: Get vCenter entities by properties / pc.retrievePropertiesEx (item1)#11)"

Environment

VMware Aria Automation 8.x

Cause

When using the out-of-the-box vRO workflow "Get Virtual Machines by Name," it ensures that the list of all vCenter servers registered in the inventory is validated. If any vCenter server is in an inactive or unusable state, the deployment is expected to fail with the above error.

Resolution

  • To validate vCenter status from the Aria Orchestrator, Log in to Aria Automation/Orchestrator, go to Orchestrator >> Inventory, and expand the vSphere vCenter Server section. Check if any vCenter Server is in an unusable state, resolve the issue, and bring it back online.

To resolve the vCenter Server plugin issue, navigate to:

Orchestrator > Library > Workflows, then locate and run the "Update a vCenter Server instance" workflow.
