Issue/Introduction

When managing virtual machines (VMs) within VMware Cloud Director (VCD), you might notice that the VM name presented in the Cloud Director tenant portal is different from the corresponding name displayed in vCenter. This can make it challenging to identify and manage the VM across both platforms. This article provides a simple method to locate the correct VCD VM name in vCenter, ensuring that you can effectively track and manage your resources in both environments.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director

Resolution

To find the vCenter name of a VCD managed VM, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the tenant portal.
  2. Navigate to the Org VDC where the VM is located.
  3. Select the VM.
  4. Under General, check the "Name in vSphere" section to find the VM name in vCenter.
