Issue/Introduction

You are trying to keep a backup of your current Core Settings (coresettings.config) in case you need to use them in a new SMP (Symantec Management Platform) Server.

Is there a way to export/import Core Settings from one SMP to another?

Environment

ITMS 8.7.x

Resolution

You can accomplish this in three ways:

  1. Copy the "CoreSettings.config" file under C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SMP\Settings

  2. You can back up and restore this type of information from the SMP Console. See:
Backing Up Critical Notification Server Data

  3. Make a backup using SIM (Symantec Installation Manager)
    1. Open SIM
    2. Click on "Repair installed products"
    3. Click on "Back up or restore Notification Server configuration"
    4. Make sure you have selected "Back up NS configuration" and have "NS core settings" (set the desired store location for the back up file)

    5. To restore core settings configuration using SIM:
      1. In the Symantec Installation Manager, on the Installed Products page, click Repair installed products.
      2. On the Repair Product page, click Back up or restore Notification Server configuration, and then click Next.
      3. On the Back up or Restore Notification Server Configuration page, do the following:
        Select Restore NS configuration.
Browse and select the backup file.
Enter the password to decrypt the backup file, and then click OK.
Under Data available for backup or recovery, select the items that you want to restore, and then click Next.
On the Review Restore Details page, review the data that you want to restore, and then select Restore.
