Unable to connect SMTP in Aria Operation Manager, receive the error Test was not successful: Email test error: [Invalid Addresses]

Issue/Introduction

While configuring an outbound SMTP plugin in Aria Operations, the following error is received when sending a test email;

• Test was not successful: Email test error: [Invalid Addresses]

It is possible to curl the SMTP endpoint on port 25.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

The issue may be caused by one of the causes below:

1. The SMTP plugin configuration is missing a valid email address to send the test email to.
2. Wrong settings on SMTP server

Resolution

Cause 1st:

Ensure the field 'Receiver email address' has a valid email address entered.

This email address is only used for testing purposes, and after the configuration is saved, the email value is removed from the configuration.

Cause 2nd:

Contact SMTP administrator to add all Aria Operations nodes' IP addresses as exception in relay restriction setting.
