Issue/Introduction

The VxRail plugin Physical view fails to populate data or shows an error indicating a failure to load host data. This prevents administrators from seeing the physical topology of the cluster.

  • Error: "Unable to show physical view due to a failure of loading physical view data for the host"
  • Physical view tab remains blank or hangs on loading.
  • VxRail Manager is reachable, but plugin data is missing in vCenter.
  • The Dell VxRail plugin Physical view fails with the error 'Unable to show physical view due to a failure of loading physical view data for the host'. on the vSphere Web client.

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server 8.x
  • ESXi 8.0.x
  • VMware vSAN 8.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the ESXi host build version is higher than the vCenter Server build version. The VxRail plugin requires vCenter to be at an equal or higher build level to correctly parse and display physical host data.

Resolution

  1. Verify the build numbers for all ESXi hosts and the vCenter Server.
  2. Upgrade vCenter Server to a build version that is equal to or higher than the ESXi hosts.
  3. Log out and log back in to the vSphere Client to refresh the plugin cache.
  4. If the Dell VxRail plugin - Physical View issue persists after the vCenter upgrade, then contact Dell Support for further investigation, as the issue is related specifically to the VxRail plugin.
