Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • The Dell VxRail plugin Physical view fails with the error 'Unable to show physical view due to a failure of loading physical view data for the host'. on the vSphere Web client.

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0.x
VMware vSAN 7.0.x

Cause

The ESXi version is higher than the vCenter Version.

Example :

ESXi 7.0 Update 3n | JUL 06 2023 | Build 21930508

VMware vCenter Server 7.0 Update 3m | 22 JUN 2023 | Build 21784236

Resolution

As per KB # 318674, the vCenter Server version must be equal to or higher than the ESXi version. Since Dell VxRail is built on vSAN, it inherits similar version compatibility requirements with vCenter.

We recommend coordinating with the Dell VxRail team to upgrade your vCenter in alignment with Dell VxRail upgrade best practices and ensure that the vCenter Server version is equal to or greater than the ESXi build.

After completing the vCenter upgrade, verify whether the reported issue with the Dell VxRail plugin physical view issue is resolved.

If the Dell VxRail plugin - Physical View issue persists after the vCenter upgrade, then contact Dell Support for further investigation, as the issue is related specifically to the VxRail plugin.
