VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

When VMware Cloud Director is attempting to startup similar errors as the following are seen in the cell-runtime logs. The names of the dependencies may not be exact:

  • | FATAL    | Module: HTML5 Cell Application | ModuleRegistry                 | Error in module: "HTML5 Cell Application"; Bean: vcdSecuredWebappConfiguration, Message: Error creating bean with name 'vcdSecuredWebappConfiguration': Unsatisfied dependency expressed through field 'sessionFilter';
  • java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Could not resolve resource location pattern [classpath:themes/*.zip]: class path resource [themes/] cannot be resolved to URL because it does not exist

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

There is file corruption has occurred for the appliance. This could be due to the disk previously being 100% full or underlying infrastructure.

Resolution

Restore the VMware Cloud Director appliance from backup:

  1. Backup the existing appliance through the VAMI at https://<IP address of cell>:5480.
  2. Power down the existing cell.
  3. Deploy a new cell with the same IP and configuration as the previous cell.
  4. Power on the appliance, and proceed to restore from the backup according to: https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/vmware-cis/cloud-director/vmware-cloud-director/10-5/restore-your-primary-vcd-appliance.html.

If there is an issue with the backup appearing from the NFS share then SSH to the new cell. Ensure that the vcloud user and group have ownership of the transfer directory, backups directory, and the backup itself. The command is:
chown vcloud:vcloud <directory or file>
