Issue/Introduction

When upgrading or patching VMware vCenter Server 8.x, the precheck stage displays the following warning: The compatibility of plug-in package(s) "[plugin_name]-[version]" with the new vCenter Server version cannot be validated. They may not function properly after vCenter Server upgrade.

Common plug-ins reported include:

  • com.vmware.vrUi (vSphere Replication)
  • com.vmware.srm (Site Recovery Manager)

Environment

vSphere vCenter 8.x

Cause

This warning occurs during the vCenter Server upgrade precheck when the installer identifies registered extensions or plug-ins whose compatibility with the target vCenter version cannot be automatically verified. This is often due to the plug-in being a different version than what is expected by the new vCenter build.

Resolution

  1. Verify the compatibility of the specific plug-in version with the target vCenter version using the Broadcom Interoperability Matrix.
  2. If the versions are confirmed as compatible, the warning is informational; click Ignore and Continue to proceed with the upgrade.
  3. If the versions are not compatible, upgrade the associated product (e.g., vSphere Replication or SRM) to a supported version prior to or immediately after the vCenter upgrade.
