Issue/Introduction

A customer has reported excessive logging from their VIP Enterprise Gateway servers related to LiveUpdate. The logs are specifically tied to the <Example user> account, which is currently configured for LiveUpdate tasks. The customer plans to transition to a dedicated Service Account for performing LiveUpdate operations instead of the default admin account.

Notably, it was observed that automatic LiveUpdate operations triggered at midnight are still using the local admin account instead of the SYSTEM account or the newly configured service account. This behavior has led to confusion and unwanted log generation.

Environment

Symantec VIP Enterprise Gateway 9.11 (Windows and Linux)

Cause

This issue was found in VIP Enterprise Gateway 9.11, where:

  • The LiveUpdate service credentials could not be changed as expected.

  • The system fails to handle LiveUpdate correctly when the update server URL is set with HTTPS on port 443.
