A Symantec Endpoint Security agent fails to install when deployed with a GPO or when using an misexec installation script if the package was created with the Software removal setting "Remove existing Symantec Agent software that cannot be uninstalled" (otherwise known as Cleanwipe) selected.
The SES agent may appear to initially install, but then immediately rolls back any install operation without any SES installation logs.
When Cleanwipe is bundled with a SES agent, it alters the standard installation process and introduces a separate mandatory restart . The altered installation process prevents GPO or other scripted installs referencing the .msi file from being used to install the agent with the selected Advanced Options -> software removal settings.
GPO or Msiexec installation script methods are not supported when the SES agent installation package is bundled with Cleanwipe.
