Issue/Introduction

Nav Intent Alert Port mode Mismatch frequently occurs on Aria Operations for Networks GUI

"Port mode configuration should match on the ports of each link."
"Message: Port mode configuration does not match on the following ports:"

Refer to below Screenshot from GUI showing Intent Alert

In above screenshot the intent alert  shows the Switch 1 and 2 names and the respective port names where the mismatch has occurred.

Environment

Aria Operations for Networks 6.14.0

Cause

Aria Operations for Networks uses Flow based link inference algorithm to infer the neighbors for Cisco devices.

This algorithm works when the neighbor device information is in the form of MAC address or if a device does not support CDP and LLDP or if CDP and LLDP is disabled.

Cisco ASA devices do not support any neighboring protocol, we use Flow based link inference algorithm to infer the neighbors for Cisco ASA. The next hop information is getting updated and deleted frequently and because of which the Port Mode Mismatch intent is frequently raised and deleted.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Aria Operations for Networks and will be fixed in a Future version of VCF Operations for Networks.

To workaround this issue we need to Disable feature flag FlowBasedLinkInference from database, so that the incorrect inference of links will be fixed and port mode mismatch intent alert will not seen further on the GUI.

If you have encountered this issue, open a support case with Broadcom Support to review your Aria Operations for Networks deployment. For more information, see Creating and managing Broadcom support cases.
