VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

  • vApp based VNF is deployed via Cloud Director successfully and no errors are present in vCenter nor Cloud Director
  • Operating System specific errors are present on the boot screen
  • During boot the VM does not complete the boot process although an operating system is partially loaded
  • VM networks are attached to the correct interfaces per the OVF settings and showing "connected"

Environment

9.x
10.x

Cause

  • vApp settings are not valid or configured correctly, potentially an issue within the operating system
  • If the vApp is reaching the boot process and showing the initial operating system this confirm we have attached and presented the deployed disks.
  • Boot process could be failing if there is a network dependency not being met, confirm that the attached networks are connected and were presented as expected

Resolution

  • Confirm the template/image used for deployment is a known good image, if so reimport it and verify the configured disks/networks are correct
  • If the VM is booting into the operating system, engage the application owner/vendor for further troubleshooting within the operating system to identify the deficiency
