NSX Group Membership is Incomplete or Empty in Aria Operations

Issue/Introduction

When looking at NSX groups in Aria Operations, group members are not listed.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

Aria Operations can only detect group members on a static NSX Group.

Resolution

Product is working as expected. Aria Operations can only build the relationship for group membership for static NSX groups, not dynamic.

 

The way to tell if a group is static of dynamic:

1. Open your NSX UI.
2. Go to Inventory -> Groups.
3. Find a group you want to check and click View Members.
4. Click on the Group Definition tab.
   • If there is anything listed under "Membership Criteria," then it is a dynamic group.
   • If not, then it is a static group.
