Issue/Introduction

Symptoms : 

  • The ESXi host was recently upgraded to the latest ESXi version, for Example, ESXi 8.0 Update 3d

  • vSAN Skyline alert for critical patch has the following update :

    Migration of VMs with snapshots from vSAN datastore in vSAN ESA 8.x may result in inconsistencies under certain specific conditions. Release 8.0U3b is available to prevent this issue, and users are strongly recommended to upgrade to 8.0U3b or later releases as soon as possible. Check KB https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article?articleId=377763 for more details. 

    Note: The above 'Migration of VMs with snapshots' issue reported in vSAN KB # 377763 indicates the fix is available in  8.0 U3b however the current ESXi version is ESXi 8.0 Update 3d which is above ESXi 8.0 Update 3b  

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.0.x
VMware vSAN 8.0.x

Cause

The ESXi was upgraded to the latest build without upgrading the vCenter server. 

Resolution

Upgrade your vCenter and make sure the vCenter version is equal to or greater than the ESXi version. Refer to KB # 318674 - vCenter version to ESXi version for more details.
