Issue/Introduction

Affected Windows VMs which locked up showed:

A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for service x”,

repeatedly on different services until VMs were powered off rebooted.
On the ESXi Host, the new iSCSI Storage is connected via two vmkernel Adapters (= vmk).

Environment

ESXi 7.x
ESXi 8.x

Cause

The ESXi Host Logs show one or both of the following errors, regarding one or both of the iSCSI vmkernel Adapters:

/var/log/hostd.log:
YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.ZZ info hostd[4810468] [Originator@6876 sub=Vimsvc.ha-eventmgr] Event 538238 : A duplicate IP address was detected for ##.##.##.## on the interface vmk#. The current owner is ##:##:##:##:##:##.
-->    eventTypeId = "esx.problem.net.vmknic.ip.duplicate",

/var/log/vmkernel.log:
YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.ZZ cpu4:10041605)Tcpip_Vmk: 124: arp: ##:##:##:##:##:## is using my IP address ##.##.##.## on vmk#!

Multiple devices sharing the same IP will result in communication issues see KB Duplicate IP address detected for more details

Resolution

Engage your networking team to resolve the issue with duplicate IPs detected, ensuring all devices on the network have unique IP address.
