Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • Unable to configure the vSphere Replication (VR) appliance using both the FQDN and IP address. During this process, the following error was encountered. Operation Failed .A general system error occurred .Failed to register VRMS.

         

  • Attempted to change the certificate on the VR appliance but encountered the following error.

    "Error: The certificate's  Subject alternative name does not contain one of the following"

      an IP address that matches the SRM host IP,a DNS name that matches the SRM host name,a common Name field that matches the SRM host name

       

Environment

VMware vSphere Replication 8.x

VMware vSphere Replication 9.x

Cause

  • The certificate presented by the vCenter Server does not match the Common Name (CN) specified in the certificate subject of the VR appliance
  • The vCenter Server displays its IP address in the vCenter (VC) Appliance interface
  • The VR appliance references the vCenter using its Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), resulting in a mismatch

Resolution

  • Updated the VR appliance configuration to use the vCenter IP address instead of the FQDN. post  this change, the appliance was successfully configured
  • The vCenter Server information must be uniform in both the VC and VR appliance configurations
