Issue/Introduction

It has been reported that the following message appeared in a CA Directory DSA warning log:

WARN : Assoc invalid - lost?

In the field, the following definition has been shared:

"Assoc invalid means the connection was suddenly dropped somewhere along the way, and a process was trying to respond to a request from that connection and couldnt find it"

The questions are: in the context of CA Directory,

  • what is an association, and
  • when would it become invalid?"

Environment

Release: 14.1
Component: CA Directory

Resolution

In general, an association represents a connection between from other Server or Client to the DSA. It is also known as a binding. The console command:

get users;

shows the existing bindings that have connected to the DSA.

The "Assoc invalid" messages appear when the DSA attempts to contact the connection it has but not getting a successful connection from the other end and hence "invalid".

An "Assoc invalid" is usually seen when:

  • An unexpected network issue that disrupted the connection
  • A client connects to the DSA but for some reasons decided to unilaterally abandon the connection. The reasons vary but could include an abnormal termination of a client or other load/performance issues of the DSAs.
