Error when protecting a virtual machine that is protected by Dell Power Protect Data Manager, in VMware Live Site Recovery

Issue/Introduction

  • While protecting a virtual machine using VMware Live Site Recovery 9.x, you receive the below error message:

Error "subscription is not available or has expired. Unable to protect VM 'ABC' with IO filter 'vmwarelwd' for device with key '2000' as this action requires active subscription."

  • While protecting a virtual machine using VMware Site Recovery Manager 8.x, you receive the below error message:

Operation Failed
Operation Error: Unable to protect VM 'ABC' with unsupported IO filter 'vmwarelwd' for device with key '2000'.

  • The virtual machine in question is already protected using Dell Power Protect Data Manager

Environment

  • VMware Site Recovery Manager 8.x
  • VMware Live Site Recovery 9.x
  • Dell Power Protect Data Manager

Cause

  • One Virtual Machine can be protected by Dell Power Protect Data Manager and VMware Live Site Recovery (array-based replication and vSphere Replication) only in certain conditions.
  • The Virtual Machine has to be protected under VMware Live Recovery license and in specific versions of vLR and Dell Power Protect.

Resolution

Please contact Dell Support for more information about the supported versions and compatibility that is tested.

Additionally, you can request the feature request to enable support on the same Virtual Machine by vLSR and Dell Power Protect Data Manager, by voting on the VCF Feature Requests Portal (Requires customer login)
