Local SPAN Port Mirror stops working after the mirroring destination VM is Storage vMotion'd

Issue/Introduction

• Configure Local SPAN Port Mirroring session in NSX.
• Perform a Storage vMotion for the mirroring destination VM.
• vDS Port Mirroring stops working after the VM Storage vMotion completes. 
• In ESXi hosts vmkernel.log, may see the following:
  Mirror.cswitch: VSwitchMirrorSessionRemove:4858

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.x
VMware NSX 4.x

Cause

When the VM switchport is changed for the same dvport during storage vMotion, it needs to be updated for the destination port entity in mirror session which does not happen on affected versions.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in VMware ESXi 9.0.1 and later, as well as NSX 4.2.3 and 9.0.1. 

Workaround:

• Compute Migrate (vMotion) the mirror destination VM to a different host, then migrate it back to the original host.
