Introduction:
In secure UNIX environments there is a reluctance to give out the UNIX root account password due to the security vulnerabilities it presents in modern network environments. This document goes through the installation screens of the CA Client Automation agents. This document assumes the proper edits to the /etc/sudoers file have been done to allow non root user to run sudo. (see notes under additional information)
Environment:
All Supported versions of UNIX
CA Client Automation R14
Instructions:
1. FTP the entire agent folder from DVD # 2 for CA Client Automation 14.0 LinuxProductFiles_x86\agent in bin mode.
2. Login as root user and cd to the folder you copied the install files to for example /agent.
3. You must now grant execute permission to the entire /agent folder the command to run is:
chmod 755 –R /agent
4. Verify the permissions are ok by issuing the ls –laR on the directory /agent
The Directory and file permissions should look similar to this:
drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 4096 Feb 26 11:35 .
drwxrwxrwx. 4 root root 4096 Feb 26 11:35 ..
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 3843 Feb 7 17:47 itemproc.dat
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 3878 Feb 7 17:47 itemproc.dat.chs
5. Now run the installation of CA Client Automation by issuing this command
sudo /agent/installdsm
A. choose language and click Ok

B. Scroll through License agreement

NOTE: You must scroll through the entire agreement for the "NEXT" option to be enabled.

C. Select the CA Client Automation Agents to install and click Next

D. Select the Express Option and click next

E. Enter the name of the Full Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the CA Client Automation Scalability Server
and click Next

F. Accept the default installation folders. It is not advisable to change these locations.

G. Review the install Summary screen and click install

H. The Installation progress bar helps you track what the installation is doing.

Install completes Successfully you can either select Done or view log to review that installation log.

I. You need to have the profile source which can be done automatically by logging in and out of the UNIX machine
or running the command . /etc/profile.CA all
J. Follow screen instructions if using a shell other than C shell.
