Issue/Introduction

syslog.log on ESXi reports the following:

YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ss vmkbacktrace[xxxxxx]: Creating trace file /var/log/vmware/apiForwarder-xxxxxx-0001.dmp

apiForwarder.log contains an entry showing that the service restarted at the exact same time, for example:

YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ss - time the service was last started YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ss, Section for VMware ESXi, pid=xxxxxx, version=7.0.3, build=22348816, option=Release

Environment

ESXi 7.0

ESXi 8.0

Cause

This is expected behaviour when the apiForwarder service is stopped or restarted. It is not an indication of a service crash.

Resolution

This log entry can be safely ignored.
