Issue/Introduction

  • Backup using DELL PowerProtect Data Manager fails after ESXi host remediation (patching, installing VIBs etc.).
  • The host remediation is performed from vSphere Lifecycle Manager.
  • There's no TSDM VIB installed on the ESXi host checking with command:

esxcli software vib list | grep -i tsdm

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0

Cause

The TSDM VIB is not included in vSphere Lifecycle Manager image depot thus is removed after host remediation.
DELL PowerProtect Data Manager needs to leverage TSDM VIB to backup virtual machines.

Resolution

The issue can be fixed in either of these ways:

  1. DELL support can be contacted to reinstall TSDM VIB from DELL PowerProtect Data Manager.
  2. Add the TSDM VIB into image depot of vSphere Lifecycle Manager to avoid TSDM VIB being removed after host remediation. Steps to follow: Import Updates to the vSphere Lifecycle Manager Depot
