Issue/Introduction

  • Cannot set Reservation for CPU or Memory on VM in the Cloud Director Tenant Portal under Hardware > Advanced.
  • After clicking Save the update appears to succeed but the Reservation value remains 0.
  • The VM Sizing Policy assigned to the VM is NOT the "System Default" created automatically for a new Organization VDC.
  • The VM Sizing Policy assigned to the VM has no optional CPU Reservation Guarantee or Memory Reservation Guarantee configured.
  • VM Sizing Policies with a CPU Reservation Guarantee or Memory Reservation Guarantee configured allow the Reservation for CPU or Memory to be set successfully.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Director 10.5
  • VMware Cloud Director 10.6

Cause

This is expected behaviour for VM Sizing Policies which are NOT the "System Default" one created automatically for a new Organization VDC and which have no optional CPU Reservation Guarantee or Memory Reservation Guarantee configured.

Resolution

Create a VM Sizing Policy and configure a CPU Reservation Guarantee or Memory Reservation Guarantee and assign this VM Sizing Policy to VMs in order to allow the Reservation for CPU or Memory to be set.

Alternatively use the System Default VM Sizing Policy that is automatically created with the Organization VDC.
