Issue/Introduction

  • vSphere 8.0 supports the feature of 'Virtual Hyperthreading' (vHT) for virtual machine.
  • Enable vHT but the option 'High with Hyperthreading' cannot be selected in the dropdown list of 'Latency Sensitivity'.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.x

Cause

The pre-requirement of vHT is that virtual machine hardware version is 20 and later from Configure the Virtual Machine Latency Sensitivity. If the hardware version is less than 20, the option 'High with Hyperthreading' will be missing from the dropdown list of 'Latency Sensitivity' of virtual machine.

Resolution

To resolve the issue:

  1. Upgrade hardware version of virtual machine to 20 or later with the steps from Upgrading a virtual machine to the latest hardware version (multiple versions).
  2. Activate vHT for virtual machine with the steps from Activate vHT for VMs.
