SRM failback issue - VMS remain in a shadow state

Issue/Introduction

Recovery fails to complete due to the error. 

Error - No hosts with hardware version '20' and datastores 'YYY' are available that are powered on and not in maintenance mode.

Cause

The VM is replicated to a datastore of a different cluster than the one where its placeholder VM resides, causing a conflict.

Resolution

The Resource and Placeholder Datastore mappings in SRM serve two purposes:

1. The Resource mapping determines the recovery location for a Protected VM.
2. The Placeholder datastore specifies where a Placeholder VM will be created.

For instance, if a VM is being replicated to vsanDatastore-1 associated with Cluster-1, but a Placeholder VM is being created in Cluster-2 due to incorrect Placeholder Datastore or Resource mapping, this will result in an error.

To resolve this, you must either replicate the VM to the appropriate datastore connected to the cluster where the placeholder VM resides or verify the accuracy of your resource and placeholder mappings.
