Host is disconnected from vCenter

Issue/Introduction

• Entering maintenance mode on an ESXi host (with hung snapshot tasks) fails or hangs, causing the host to eventually disconnect from the vCenter Server.
  
  
• The VMware Host Client (ESXi Web GUI) is not accessible, but VMs running on the host are still functioning.

Environment

• VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x
• VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x
• VMware vCenter Server 7.x
• VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause
