Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Replications are working in legacy mode but cannot be converted to Enhanced replication due to errors.

Replication mapping tests are failing with the error, "Login: Login denied. Login request is denied."

Environment

vSphere Replication 8.8 and up

ESXI 8.0 u2 and up

Cause

ESXi hosts hbr-agent service is unable to log into vSphere replication appliance due to a network timeout or a invalid broker certificate.

Resolution

Verify Ports for vSphere Replication

1. Ensure ports 32032 are open between source and destination ESXI hosts.

2. Restart hms and hbrsrv service on both vSphere replication appliances.

systemctl restart hbrsrv
systemctl restart hms

Restarting the services will push out a new broker certificate that the ESXI hosts will use to connect to vSphere replication.

Additional Information

hms.log will show the following during a replication mapping test:
Error: Fault occurred while performing health check. Details: 'Login: Login denied. Login request is denied

hbr-agent.log on source ESXI host will show the following:
Failed to login to brokered server: ##.##.##.## : 32032
