Issue/Introduction

  • Deploying a VM from Content library fails

  • Deploy OVF Template task fails with error:
Failed to deploy OVF package. Cause: A general system error occurred: Transfer failed: Error during transfer of ds:///vmfs/volumes/#//<VMName>/VMname.vmdk: Failed to retrieve additional storage allocation information forfile UR(ds:///vmfs/volumes/#//<VMName>/VMName.vmdk) post data transfer

  • In VCSA logs for content library (/var/log/vmware/content-library/cls.log)
    In(166) Hostd[#]: [Originator@6876 sub=DiskLib opID=# sid=# user=vpxuser:VSPHERE.LOCAL\vpxd-extension-#] DISKLIB-LIB_CLONE   : DiskLibCloneGrowInt: Failed to clone disk using Object Cloning.

  • On ESXi host can see storage latency during transfer: (/var/log/vmkernel.log)
Wa(180) vmkwarning: cpu31:2097265)WARNING: ScsiDeviceIO: 1779: Device naa.### performance has deteriorated. I/O latency increased from average value of 3554 microseconds to 80616 microseconds.

Environment

  • vCenter Server 8.x
  • vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

This can be caused by slow datastore response or latency.

Resolution

Please investigate the I/O or related failure on the backing LUN.
