Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Below error appears while performing Host migration,

  

  Error - "Warning: This virtual machine is protected by VMware Site Recovery Manager. Migrating the VM from a replicated and protected datastore 'xxxxxxxx' to a non-replicated datastore will cause the VM to become non-replicated and you will not be able to recover the VM using Site Recovery Manager in case of a disaster. Do not proceed unless you understand the potential data loss involved. Note: You can migrate the VM to a datastore that resides in the same consistency group as 'xxxxxxxx' without any issue."

Environment

VMware Live Recovery

Cause

VM removed from Replication, If not unprotected from protection group, will remain as stale and hold the VM; as a result, the VM fails to migrate between hosts.

Note: VM removed from replication, also needs to be removed from protection group. Else it will still hold the VM with SRM as stale entry.

Resolution

Below steps was carried out to remove VM stale entry,

• Identify the Protection group that is holding the VM.
  
  
  
  
• Select the VM in the protection group and unprotect using "Remove Protection".
  
  
  
  
  
• Remove the VM post unprotect using "Remove VM".
