Issue/Introduction

VCF brownfield domain import fails during NSX deployment. NSX deployment fails after NSX manager creation, and automatically attempts multiple times before eventually timing out.

Environment

VCF 5.x

Cause

NSX managers deploy on incorrect portgroup and network connectivity cannot be established properly.

Resolution

Ensure the portgroup that the vCenter occupies is a valid, properly configured distributed port group. We do not support standard switch portgroups for brownfield environment imports.

Additional Information

The way the portGroup is decided during NSX deployment is -
It will check if there is a portGroup of Type VM_MANAGEMENT.
If it is not found, then it will choose the MANAGEMENT type PG.
There is no way in the nsx-deployment-spec to provide the PortGroup to be used for NSX deployment.
The recommendation is that all the management appliances run on the same VLAN/port group.
