Issue/Introduction

Symptom:

  • The storage policy has tag configuration and that tag itself has been removed, all the VMs utilizing the storage policy are showing up as non compliant.

Environment

VMware vSphere vSAN 7.x

VMware vSphere vSAN 8.x

Cause

  • The storage policy applied on the VM is tag based. VMs using the same storage policy is expecting the tag to be in accessible state to be compliant.

  • Tag assigned to the storage policy is missing.

Steps: Login to vCenter > Select the hamburger option menu on the top left window > select "Policies and Profiles" > select the tag based storage policy.

Resolution

Re-create the missing tag and reapply the storage policy-

  • Login to vCenter and from the top left menu option select "Tags & Custom Attributes".

  • Select "New" to create the tag again which the vSAN storage policy is trying to access.

  • Remove the old Tag from the datastore.

Steps : Select the datastore and right click > Tags & Custom Attributes > Remove Tag

  • Assign the tag again on the datastore.

Steps : Select the datastore and right click > Tags & Custom Attributes > Remove Tag

  • Reapply the storage policy.
