Issue/Introduction

Starting with the ITMS 8.7.2 Release, a User can clone items even if they don't have permissions for the folder where the item is currently located.

The list of folders with corresponding permissions allowed for any given user is displayed with the ability to choose the preferred folder. Similar functionality is not implemented for Extended Console Views (ECV) and users cannot clone items in this situation.

This article provides guidance on how to use this new feature for cloning items (jobs, tasks, etc) in a reference folder with restricted permissions and save them to other folders to which they have the necessary permissions, without making changes to the reference folder.

Environment

ITMS 8.7.3

Resolution

This is a new feature added to the ITMS 8.7.3 Release and is documented in the Release Notes under the Feature "Specify Destination Folder when Cloning".

Users can now clone items (jobs, tasks, etc) in a reference folder that has restricted permissions and save them to other folders to which they have the necessary permissions, without making changes to the reference folder. This is defined in the Extended Console Views (ECV) UI.

The new ECV UI works fine in case non-admin users are going to clone, move filters, tasks, jobs, policies from ECV pages. We properly show that the appropriate selected destination folder can't be used for clone action.

To accomplish this (cloning a task from a folder where the user doesn't have permissions to place the cloned task and select to save it in another folder with permissions):

  1. Set or identify the desired Security Role or User. In this example, it is called "Admin Cloned Role"

  2. Then, under Security Role Manager, select the desired "Role"
  3. Under "View", change it to the desired View. In this example, Tasks.
  4. Navigate to the desired folder that has the "No create a folder or subfolder (children)" restriction. This is the folder that doesn't have "Folder Permissions" and "Create Children" options selected. As well, you can have another folder with those "Folder Permissions" and "Create Children" options selected which will be hosting those cloned tasks.

  5. Then, logging to your browser with the desired User from Security role. Find the folder that contains the desired task. Clone the task.

  6. A new window will appear where you can select the destination folder. If the User/Security Role doesn't have permissions on destination folder, you should see a warning icon indicating the restriction:
"Clone operation not allowed, please select another folder"

Just select a different one from the displayed list.
