VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

  • When attempting to log into the Tenant Portal, you may encounter an "Authentication Error".
  • Under \opt\vmware\vcloud-director\logs\vcloud-container-debug.log, you see messages similar to:

Cannot log into organization <Organization Name> because it has not been assigned rights.

  • Despite having the "Organization Administrator" role assigned, users are unable to log in to their VCD Tenant and encounter an "Authentication Error".

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

This issue occurs due to the absence of fundamental logon rights associated with the user's role at the Organization level.

Resolution

  • While the "Organization Administrator" role grants administrative privileges within the tenant once logged in, it does not inherently include the permissions required to initially authenticate and access the tenant itself. The system explicitly prevents login if these basic rights are missing at the organization level.
  • To resolve the issue, assign the appropriate rights to the Role "Organization Administrator" as per VMware Cloud Director Rights in Predefined Global Tenant Roles

Additional Information

If the user is not assigned the Organization Administrator role, you'll need to assign the appropriate permissions as needed.
