RC/Migrator for DB2 for z/OS

Issue/Introduction

DBAs were asked to support a data migration from SQL Server to DB2. Since the developers using SQL Server are commonly using column names longer than 30 characters the DBAs would like to know whether Broadcom DB2 Admin Tools support this?

Environment

z/os DB2

Resolution

Db2 Admin products generally support long names; however, certain functionalities have limitations in this regard.

Below is a high-level overview:

  1. RCQ: Reporting and DDL operations are supported, but certain interactive line commands are not supported yet.
  2. RCM/RCC (Quick Migrate & Migrate): Core migration functions (such as UNLOAD, DDL, and LOAD) work with long column names, but advanced features like global changes have limited support.
Other Features (Alter Strategy, Compare, Syntax Checker, etc.): These areas currently do not support long column names.
