Issue/Introduction

Storage team has a requirement to turn off CBT (change block tracking) on the Log Insight appliances to improve the speed/performance of their backups for the Aria Operations for Logs cluster.

Environment

Aria Operations for Logs 8.x

Cause

Not applicable.

Resolution

As long as Aria Operations for Logs appliance usage is within the sizing guideline, CBT can be enabled or disabled by preference.

Aria Operations for Logs is an application running on a VM, software base, whereas CBT is a VMKernel feature that tracks storage blocks of VM on a hardware level.  On Aria Operations for Logs perspective, there is nothing to change as it is not something to be configurable on the software side of thing.
In terms of whether there is any effect,  CBT is a hypervisor level construct. Aria Operations for Logs does not have any visibility into CBT performed by the hosts. From the product perspective, it doesn't care if CBT is enabled or not, as long as the storage can provide the required IOPS based on the sizing requirements.
