Issue/Introduction

Planning to upgrade in-place RedHat OS from 7 to 8:

  • Is there documents about upgrading OS when running SiteMinder on them?
  • What are the recommendations for pre, during and post SiteMinder operations from an OS upgrade?
  • Is there a safe approach for performing the OS upgrade?
  • Is there known issue or incompatibilities resulting from OS upgrade?

Resolution

Pay attention to:

  • The JVM in use on RedHat 7; when upgrading to RedHat 8, if the RedHat OpenJDK version (the one that comes with the OS) is in use and the Policy Server or the CA Access Gateway (SPS) uses it, as defined in its environment variables, ensure the path in the RedHat 8 will be the same;
  • If the JVM changes, ensure it's supported (1);
  • Review for CA Access Gateway (SPS), Policy Server and AdminUI that the prerequisites are met for RedHat 8 (2)(3)(4).
  • List all the custom code that might run with Policy Server or CA Access Gateway (SPS), and ensure that there have no dependencies with the OS;
  • To validate the well running of SiteMinder, apply the validation plan, the same as used after putting the environment into production.
