Issue/Introduction

  • While trying to update esxi image on o NSX enabled vLCM cluster, the following errors is thrown:

"com.vmware.vcIntegrity.lifecycle.TaskError.HealthCheckFailed"

  • In var/log/vmware/vmware-updatemgr/vum-server/vmware-vum-server.log, you can see error similar to :

<timestamp> warning vmware-vum-server[54924] [Originator@6876 sub=IO.Connection] Failed to resolve address; <resolver p:0x00007f083c24e0d0, '<nsxmanager_reverse_dns>:443', next:(null)>, e: 1(Host not found (authoritative)), async: true, duration: 216msec
<timestamp> warning vmware-vum-server[54924] [Originator@6876 sub=HttpConnectionPool-000000] Failed to get pooled connection; <cs p:00007f083c004c30, TCP:<nsxmanager_reverse_dns>:443>, (null), duration: 216msec, N7Vmacore15SystemExceptionE(Host not found (authoritative))

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server 8.x
  • VMware ESXi
  • NSX-T 4.1.2.4

Cause

NSX Manager does a reverse-DNS lookup on the NSX Managers and VIP  IP address, and a forward lookup of the NSX Managers and VIP  hostname to vCenter.

Resolution

  • Ensure that vCenter Server can resolve both NSX manager and VIP FQDNs and reverse DNS lookup
  • As a workaround, you can temporarily add  the missing registrations in vCenter /etc/hosts file
