Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and vSphere Replication appliances were previously deployed.

  • As part of the decommissioning process, the SRM appliance was unregistered from the vCenter Server using the documented procedure in Unregister the Site Recovery Manager Appliance
  • Following unregistration, both the SRM and vSphere Replication appliances were powered off via the vSphere Client

  • Despite these actions, the Site Recovery plugin still appears in the vCenter Server UI.

  • Within the plugin, only the vSphere Replication appliance details are visible. Since the vSphere Replication appliance is powered off, its status shows as Not accessible

Validation Steps:

  • Power on the vSphere Replication Management Appliance.

  • Access the VAMI console at: https://<vr_ip>:5480
  • On the Summary page:
     • If the appliance is still registered with vCenter, the Summary tab will display vCenter connection details as shown in below screenshot

     • If the appliance has been unregistered, the Summary tab will instead present the Configure Appliance option.

In this scenario, since the SRM appliance was unregistered successfully, the VAMI console reflects the Configure Appliance option, confirming it is no longer registered to vCenter. However, the vSphere Replication appliance is still registered to the vcenter server

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.x

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

The vSphere Replication appliance is still registered with the vCenter Server causing the Site Recovery plugin to continue appearing in the vCenter UI, even after the SRM appliance was unregistered.

Resolution

Unregister the vSphere Replication appliance from the vCenter Server by following the steps documented in Uninstall vSphere Replication
