Error: Cannot connect the ESXi host because of ongoing task in progress

Issue/Introduction

You start the Maintenance Mode for the ESXi host. While the task is running, you interrupt the task and you disconnect the ESXi host.

You try to connect the ESXi host but it is failing with error:

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0

 

Cause

Interrupted task (entering Maintenance Mode) is stuck and never times out

Resolution

• From the vCenter tasks filter the ESXi host name to find pending task, in our case entering Maintenance Mode

 

• End the task
• Reconnect the ESXi host
